PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

The 2019 Reach the Peaks Challenge is the premier single day hiking challenge in North Carolina. It will take place September 28th. This years 7th challenge will be the toughest yet and offer a strenuous 11 mile world class trail route that will test participants from the banks of the Dan River to Moores Knob, the highest NC peak east of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The 2019 Reach the Peaks Challenge will once again begin and end at the Dan River Company / Green Heron Alehouse in Danbury, NC and utilize Hanging Rock State Parks Indian Creek Trail, Campground Road, and Moores Wall Trail.

Net proceeds from the 2019 Reach the Peaks Challenge will support Arts in Education programs in Stokes County Schools which are in partnership with the Winston-Salem Symphony, Piedmont Opera, Bailey Mountain Cloggers, Columbia Marionette Theatre, Mike Wiley Productions, WSSU, UNCSA, and UNCG Theatre for Young People.

Parking / Shuttle
ALL HIKING participants will park in the Stokes Government Center Parking Lot, 1012 Main Street in Danbury, NC (Look for the digital parking signs) and take the 2.4 mile free shuttle to the event start / finish location at the Dan River Company on Flinchum Road. The shuttle will run from 8am to 10am.

The shuttle returning participants to their vehicles will run from 12noon to 6pm, or until all participants are returned.

WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE CARPOOLING

CHECK IN for the HIKING CHALLENGE portion is scheduled from 8:15am until 10:15am. ALL Hiking participants are required to begin the hike no earlier than 9:15am (after the Trail Runners) and no later than 10:30am, NO EXCEPTIONS.

ADVANCED REGISTRATION is $30 per person for adults and $20 per person for youth (ages 18 and under) and ends on Thursday, September 26, 11:59pm. Day of Registration is $40 per person for adults, $30 for youth. The HIKING CHALLENGE for the 2019 Reach the Peaks Challenge will be limited to the first 500 participants to sign up, whether Advanced or Day of.
ALL PARTICIPANTS will be required to sign a waiver the day of the event before participating.

WATER for participants will be available at the registration area, and at water fountains located on the trail near Mile Marker 4 and at the Hanging Rock State Park Visitors Center.

RESTROOMS for participants will be accessible at the registration area, and behind the large shelter near Mile Marker 4 and at the Hanging Rock State Park Visitors Center.

There is no meal included with your 2019 Reach the Peaks registration fee.
Pacific Rim Cuisine and Sliders Street Food food trucks will be on site should participants be interested in purchasing a meal at the completion of the hike, with complimentary water & soft drinks provided. The Green Heron Ale House will also be open selling NC craft beer and wine.

Participants who complete the challenge will receive a commemorative embroidered patch.
All participants will receive an Arts Place of Stokes swag gift bag with locally made products from Gravely Hill, Honduras Coffee, Hops and Nuts, and Field’s Edge.

Dog registration is $15 per dog, and can be completed by calling 336-593-8159. Each dog must be accompanied by a paying participant, and will receive a 2019 Reach the Peaks bandana (and patch should they complete the hike). Only well-behaved dogs welcomed, with ALL dogs required to be on a leash throughout the entire event. Dog participants must bring documentation of most recent rabies vaccine and bordetella vaccine.

THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE (Unless Directed by Stokes Emergency Services to cancel due to natural disaster)

Triad Outdoor Painters will be capturing the event on canvas with paintings that will be exhibited the month of October in the Hanging Rock State Park Visitors Center Jayebird Gallery, with a reception scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 13 from 2pm to 4pm.
