Registration for River to Rock is NOW OPEN!

The River to Rock Challenge (formerly Reach the Peaks) is the premier single day hiking challenge in North Carolina. The event offers a strenuous 10 mile world class trail route that will test participants from the banks of the Dan River to the peak of Hanging Rock. River to Rock will utilize both the Indian Creek Trail and Hanging Rock Trail within Hanging Rock State Park.

Parking / Shuttle
ALL HIKING participants will park in the Stokes Government Center Parking Lot, 1012 Main Street in Danbury, NC (Look for the digital parking signs) and take the 2.4 mile free shuttle to the event start / finish location at the Dan River Company on Flinchum Road. The shuttle will run from 8am to 10am.

CHECK IN for the HIKING CHALLENGE portion is scheduled from 8:30am until 10:15am. ALL Hiking participants are required to begin no earlier than 9:15am (after the Runners) and no later than 10:30am, NO EXCEPTIONS. ADVANCED REGISTRATION is $25 per person and ends on Friday, September 21 at 5 pm. Day of Registration is $35 per person. The HIKING CHALLENGE for the 2018 River to Rock Challenge will be limited to the first 500 participants to sign up, whether Advanced or Day of.
ALL PARTICIPANTS will be required to sign a waiver the day of the event before participating.

Two water stations will be located along the trail route.

The shuttle returning participants to their vehicles will run from 12noon until 6pm.

Fruit and Water will be available for participants at the event start / finish location.

There is no meal included with your River to Rock registration fee.
Food Trucks will be on site should participants be interested in purchasing a meal at the completion of the hike, with complimentary water & soft drinks provided. The Green Heron Ale House will also be open selling NC craft beer and wine.

Participants who complete the challenge will receive a specially created embroidered patch. All participants will also receive an event cooling towel.

Dog registration is $15 per dog, and can be completed by calling 336-593-8159. Each dog must be accompanied by a paying participant, and will receive a River to Rock bandana (and patch should they complete the hike). Only well-behaved dogs welcomed, with ALL dogs required to be on a leash throughout the entire event. Dog participants must bring documentation of most recent rabies vaccine and bordetella vaccine.

Triad Outdoor Painters will be capturing the day through paintings that will be exhibited the month of October in the Hanging Rock State Park Visitors Center, with a reception scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 14 from 2pm to 4pm.

Day of registration will begin at the Hanging Rock Visitor’s Center Parking Lot for the trail running portion at 7am on Sept 26 with the run starting at 8:30 am. Unlimited spaces remain for day of trail running registration.

Day of registration for the hiking portion begins at 8:30 am on Sept 26 with a staggered start from 9am to 10:30 am.

The After Party will be at the Green Heron Ale House, 1110 Flinchum Rd, Danbury, NC 27016 from 2-5pm. The Oink-n-Cluckin’ Food Truck will be there for folks who are hungry. Inside Dave Hoskins, proprietor, will have Harpoon Brewery of Boston Ale Tasting.

Advanced Registration Has Ended

Advanced registration has ended. Day of registration will begin for the trail running portion at 7am on Sept 26 with the run starting at 8:30 am. Unlimited spaces remain for day of trail running registration.

Day of registration for the hiking portion begins at 8:30 am on Sept 26 with a staggered start from 9am to 10:30 am. 200 spaces remain for day of registration of hiking.

Registration for our 2015 event on September 26th is through Brown Paper Tickets. This year we have two challenges: a hiking challenge and a trail running challenge.

Hiking Challenge

Reach the Peaks is the premier single day hiking challenge in North Carolina.  The event offers a strenuous 11 mile world class trail route that will test participants to summit the five major peaks of Hanging Rock State Park, including Moore’s Knob, Cook’s Wall, House Rock, Wolf Rock, and Hanging Rock.  Advance Registration is $25 per person and ends on Friday, August 28th at 5 pm. Day of Registration is $35 per person.  The Hiking Portion of the 2015 Reach the Peaks Challenge will be limited to the first 500 participants to sign up, whether Advance or Day of.  Advance Registration will receive an event t-shirt, stainless steel water bottle, water, trail map, post-hike meal/beverage, and trail safety team sweeps.  Day of Registration will receive water/fruit, trail map, post-hike meal/beverage, and trail safety team sweeps.  Participants who complete the challenge will receive a specially created embroidered patch, and join a select group of hikers who have completed this single day hiking challenge. Dog registration is $15 per dog, with each receiving a Reach the Peaks bandana (and patch should they complete the hike).  Only well-behaved dogs welcomed, with ALL dogs required to be on a leash throughout the entire event. Trail Running Challenge

Reach the Peaks is the premier trail running peak challenge in North Carolina.  The event offers a strenuous 11 mile world class trail route that will test participants to summit the five major peaks of Hanging Rock State Park, including Moore’s Knob, Cook’s Wall, House Rock, Wolf Rock, and Hanging Rock.  THIS EVENT IS NOT A RACE. A Timer will be located at the START/FINISH line, but all trail running participants are responsible to record their own time. Advance Registration is $25 per person and ends on Friday, August 28 at 5 pm. Day of Registration on September 26th is $35 per person.  Advance Registration will receive an event t-shirt, stainless steel water bottle, water/fruit, trail map, post-hike meal/beverage, and trail safety team sweeps.  Participants who complete the challenge will receive a specially created embroidered patch, and join a select group of trail runners who have completed this challenge. NO DOGS will be allowed on the Trail Running portion of the Reach the Peaks Challenge.
